Meet in the car park opposite the Gun Inn. Parking charges apply in car park, free for 3 hours along sea-wall..
Expect to see sea-birds, waterfowl, shorebirds and the chance of migrants such as wheatear.

Hengistbury Head (SZ 162 911) 10.00am – 1.00pm
Meet outside Hikers Café.  Parking charges apply – please car-share if possible.
Hope to see some returning migrants

Meet in the Passage Lane car park, Warsash
Shorebirds and migrants – all day so bring a packed lunch and warm drink.

Meet in the car park on Stanpit. Car park can be full as area popular with hikers and dog-walkers, car-share if possible.
Waterfowl, shorebirds, migrants
Some of us are likely to stop at the Cat and Fiddle on the way back for lunch.

Meet in the RSPB Reserve car park
Number of over-wintering shorebirds should be building up as should waterfowl.  Also a chance for farmland birds such as yellowhammer and corn bunting.
All day trip so please bring a packed lunch and warm drink.

Meet at Maiden Lane. Xmas lunch at the Chequers
A gentle stroll round Normandy should produce a good range of over-wintering waterfowl and waders with the chance of scarce species such as Slavonian grebe
If you wish to join the group for lunch but are not going on the walk please let us know so that we can book sufficient places in the restaurant.

Meet in Tern Hide car park.
Blashford is good for both aquatic and woodland species so we hope to see a range of waterfowl, grebes, finches such as bullfinch and siskin with the chance of redpoll and brambling.
An all day trip so please bring lunch with you.

Poole Harbour Bird Boat

Meet on Poole Quay.   Date provisional.  Booking essential
Different years bring different rarities but hope for divers, grebes, waterfowl, spoonbills, waders, including large numbers of avocet.  We will be landing on Brownsea Island and visiting the Dorset Wildlife Trust Reserve, so bring your HIWWT membership card if you have one.
Some people may stay for lunch in one of the quayside pubs.

Good site for black-necked grebes, wader and waterfowl – long-tailed duck seen in 2017.

Meet in the reserve car park by the Information Centre
Spoonbill, Dartford warbler, sika deer, firecrest, hen harrier, waders, woodland birds, heathland birds.
An all day trip so please bring a packed lunch.

Saturday 3 March 2018
Acres Down (SU 268 097) 10.00 – 1.00pm
Raptor watch – meet at Acres Down car park.
Main target is displaying goshawks, but a good chance of woodlark.
Lunch in the Swan at Swan Green is a likely option following the walk.

Meet by the Information Centre.
An RSPB reserve on the Sussex Downs, this is a good site for nightingale and hobby

Meet in car park on Dean Lane
This small RSPB reserve is a new site for most of us but should produce a range of woodland species including spotted flycatcher.
An all day trip so please bring a packed lunch.

“This ancient wood is at its best when its breathtaking carpets of bluebells, wood anemones and primroses are in bloom (mid-April to the end of May). Look for signs of badgers and fallow deer. There are common woodland birds in spring and turtle doves in spring and summer.” [RSPB]

Mainly woodland and heathland species with a chance of firecrest and wood warbler – note the early start to get a better chance to hear birdsong.

Martin Down

Meet at the end of Sillen Lane, west of Martin village.
Birds, butterflies and orchids – specialties are turtle dove, corn bunting and yellowhammer; adonis, small and common blue, dingy and grizzled skipper; burnt tip, frog, bee, fragrant, greater butterfly, pyramidal, and common spotted orchid.
An all day trip so please bring a packed lunch.

Our summer social event a BBQ at Anderwood followed by a search for nightjar.  A reliable site with a chance to also hear drumming snipe.

An evening stroll along the seawall at Keyhaven with possibly some early returning shorebirds, followed by supper at The Gun if we get back before the kitchen closes at 9.00pm.

Meet at the bottom of Maiden Lane.
Migration season will still be with us, so anything is possible – spoonbill, spotted redshank, whimbrel, curlew sandpiper, knot?
Some are likely to retire to the Chequers Inn for refreshments.

Meet in free parking area by café on B3053
Seabirds, shorebirds, possibly birds of woodland and scrub.
A slightly later start with the intention of taking lunch at Ashlett Creek part way through the walk, either at the Jolly Sailor or a pack lunch by the old mill.
