While it is possible that you have already got started on this project, the following information is usually sent to volunteers about the project and you may find this useful: ; Coastal Network study methodology, Instructions for app and Instructions for website. Click HERE to access Solent Bird Studies’ website.
The project is still on-going this winter so the following provides a bit more information bout how you can continue to support the project. Ideally, they are looking for volunteers to cover a set ‘patch’ in an area that they visit regularly and submit records on a weekly or fortnightly basis. However, any ad-hoc records of roosting or inland feedings waders and wildfowl are also greatly appreciated. It is also of equal importance that the absence of birds is recorded – so if you don’t see anything that is just as useful!
In addition to the above, the project is looking for some more experienced observers to take part in some bi-monthly coordinated vantage point counts (dates TBC). If you are interested and would like more information please email either Jenny Watts or Ed Rowsell.
If you are already participating in the Solent Birds Study, it would be good if you could give the RSPB New Forest Local Group an update at our monthly indoor meeting at Lyndhurst.
